Why Your Company Should Have a Blog – An Example

Blogging is becoming quite popular as a way to share news and thoughts. However, blogging is also being used by businesses to share information with customers or potential customers.

I’m a firm believer that every business should be following what people are saying about them via social networks and social media. Likewise, I believe that every business should have a blog as well.

Many people in business think that there is no benefit to having a company blog or participating in social networking. They wonder if there is any return on investment in time. Well, recently the computer company Dell reported making $ 3 million in sales due to Twitter. How’s that for return on investment?

So, why should you blog for business?

With a blog your business has more of a chance of being found in a search engine like Google or Yahoo. Compared to regular static websites, blogs are updated more often and provide fresh, relevant content.

Another benefit of blogging is that it enables your business to interact with current and potential customers, thus building an online community of loyal customers who value your product and/or services. On your blog you can provide value via informative tips, news or articles on topics related to your business and you can answer customers questions as well. Through your blog, you establish a relationship with your customers and they will remember you the next time they need your product or service.

An example of a business that provides value to their clients via a blog is Complete Dental Health in San Diego, California. Complete Dental Health not only has a regular website that has information about their business, but they also have a link to a blog that provides news, tip and advice on how to take care of your teeth.

So let’s say that someone in San Diego needs a new a dentist, however this person likes to read blogs and wants a dentist who has a blog.

This person goes to Google blogsearch and searches for “San Diego dentist”. The Complete Dental Health’s blog shows up near the top of the search result. This person reads the blog and likes the information provided. He/she then decides to call Complete Dental Health to set up an appointment to meet with the dentist.

It’s easy to see the potential to gain new clients or sales when you start blogging for business. Now do you still think blogs are not worth your time?
