imagoo Raises $1.2 Million, Debuts New Real-Time Social Polling App for iPhone

Las Vegas (PRWEB) June 06, 2013

Las Vegas-based tech startup imagoo has launched its social polling iPhone app and Web platform that lets consumers, brands and businesses issue challenges and comparisons and vote on content in real time. The company has raised $ 1.2 million from an angel investor to fuel the launch and development of its mobile platform.

imagoo, which was born out of a few friends’ hunger for friendly competition, moves beyond the typical social polling features and enables users to issue challenges, which pit users head-to-head against their friends or other users on the network. The result is a real-time poll pushed to the imagoo community in which anyone can vote to determine the winner, whether the debate is about sports teams, politics, food, fashion or dozens of other categories.

“It’s human nature for people to believe their opinions and possessions are best,” said Mickey Hernandez, imagoo’s founder and CEO. “imagoo lets users test that assumption instantly through the unbiased opinions of others. We saw an opportunity to take the need to prove yourself among your peers and turned it into something much bigger.”

In addition to challenges, key features of the app include:

“This or This” – A comparison feature that lets users solicit opinions on two items through real-time polling. Users can ask for feedback or cast their vote on any two items, services, brands or products. For example, a user who is out shopping can ask the imagoo community what pair of shoes they prefer and receive feedback before they leave the store.
Activity feed – Users can follow their friends and stay on top of new challenges and comparisons as they happen.
Quick voting – imagoo makes it easy for users to cast their votes on hundreds or thousands of active challenges and comparisons.
Social media integration – Whether a user issues a challenge or comparison poll, Facebook and Twitter integration make it easy for users to access the opinions of friends in their social networks.

Businesses also benefit from imagoo through access to real-time customer insight. Using imagoo, businesses can poll followers and other users on the network and receive instant feedback. The polls and challenges that businesses create serve as real-time A/B testing. Instead of investing in expensive consumer data tools, businesses can use imagoo to access opinions quickly, easily and informally.

IT New York Releases New Survey Results That Show The Majority of New Yorkers Plan to Buy the New iPhone and Reveal Other Intriguing Data

New York, NY (PRWEB) November 19, 2013

As customers flock to buy the new iPhone 5c and 5s, the marketing team at IT New York pondered, “What would make New Yorkers get the latest version of the iPhone when the last one came out so recently? Is it merely because they have the money to buy one or are there larger motives at work?” According to Apple’s website new iPhone website (http://www.apple.com/iphone-5s/), “Forward Thinking,” the iPhone 5s is more useful than hype. “It’s not a product that is of what’s technologically possible. But what’s technologically useful as well. It’s not just what’s next, but what should be next.” In addition to describing how technologically advanced the new iPhone is, the Apple website goes on to say on their site, “iPhone 5 set a precedent, with an amazing amount of technology in a remarkably thin, light design. iPhone 5s builds on that achievement with Touch ID — fingerprint identity sensors, an A7 chip with 64-bit architecture, and an even more impressive iSight camera, and ultrafast LTE wireless.”

IT New York’s marketing analyst questioned how consumers felt about the new iPhone release. So, IT New York surveyed roughly 1,000 people. The survey was comprised of mainly New Yorkers and New York University (NYU) students with the majority of the demographic identifying as females between the ages of 18-25. The results showed stark differences in how people feel and reacted to the release of the newest iPhone craze. IT New York’s employees asked a variety of questions including an attempt to identify how many of the surveyors currently used an iPhone with their cellular service provider. Of the responses 19.4% responded that they do not currently have an iPhone. iPhones have the capability to be a more comprehensive version of the existing smart phones, and therefore there may be a justification in cost differential. 80.6% of the test group was iPhone users. Most of the focus group reaction indicated that they did like their iPhones because of their ease of use.

IT New York also asked in its survey to rate their satisfaction with five stars being excellent. People rated their iPhone experience out of 5 stars, and the average was approximately 4.5 stars. People who had responded that they currently own (roughly 80%) stated that they would buy an iPhone owners said they would buy the next iPhone and cited reasons behind their decision as a matter of convenience and economical positioning. One surveyor articulated why all the current iPhone users did not plan on buying the next iPhone, “I’m not planning to buy the next iPhone because I can’t afford it. But if I could I would buy the next iPhone because Apple always seems to surprise buyers with their new ideas on making iPhones more high tech and fun to use. Apple makes iPhones that make buyers think ‘wow this more than just a phone; it’s everything in one.’ I have an iPhone but it’s the 4 not the 5 or 5s or 5c. I can’t afford either.”

Users of iPhones who plan on buying the iPhone 5 ranged from being adamant Apple fans to seeing a new iPhone as a necessity. Some answers cited the technical innovations like the “interface, usability, firmware and hardware advancements.” Another cites that he does not believe that being a student and an entrepreneur would be possible without the use of his iPhone. Numerous responses from NYU students indicated similar sentiments. Others discussed how it’s “cool” to own an iPhone. A particular fan of Apple said, “Looking forward to the new screen size (or so they say), and I’m just generally a huge fan of Jonathan Ivy’s designs.”

IT New York’s survey concluded that the majority of New Yorkers between the ages of 18-30 are Apple fans and a majority indicated that they would likely purchase the next release if they are capable of it. Apple fans that have purchased the phones are able to sync it with their other Apple devices because of the compatibility and design of the phone. IT New York recently held an iPhone 5s contest where the winner would have an opportunity to win a new iPhone 5s phone and test the new functionality features and redesign. Angel Xu won the most recent contest sponsored by IT New York. Angel cites, “I am excited to win the contest in the IT New York iPhone 5s giveaway. I’ve had my eye on it for a while.”

IT New York has received tons of positive feedback from Android users who recently switched to Apple or the iPhone platforms. A small number (33%) of the 19.4% android users who were surveyed that did not currently own iPhones had no intentions of buying them and ranged in opinions. 5.5% of the people surveyed stated that they still would not own an iPhone if they were able to do so. Therefore the IT New York survey also concluded that the majority of the population preferred iPhones and would purchase the next iPhone.

Public is Invited to Use Web, iPhone and Android Apps as Part of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) Geo Inventory Challenge

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) February 08, 2012

Azavea, an award-winning geospatial analysis (GIS) software development company, announces a crowd-sourcing contest to locate automated external defibrillators (AED) and the release of a web application and two free mobile apps, part of the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvanias MyHeartMap Challenge. The applications are now available for the public to participate in the MyHeartMap Challenge which will run for six weeks from January 31 to Tuesday, March 13. In an effort to build a national database of AEDs and increase AED awareness, the Penn Medicines MyHeartMap is turning to the public to gather as much information as possible about AEDs accessible to the public.

Though almost non-existent a decade ago, automatic external defibrillators (AEDs) are now all around us, in airports, schools, gyms, and workplaces. These devices can save lives as they deliver electric shocks to victims of cardiac arrests. This is most effective in the first minutes after someone collapses. Yet, there is no comprehensive map of such devices available to the public. As a result, AEDs are often not used when they are most needed either because witnesses of a cardiac arrest incident do not know there might be an AED close by or that they should be looking for one.

The Penn Medicine MyHeartMap team is initiating the MyHeartMap Challenge project by encouraging the public, armed with the web and mobile applications built by Azavea, to locate and photograph as many AEDs in Philadelphia as possible. Both the apps and participation in the contest are free. Participants will be able to geocode their photos via the mobile app available on the iPhone or Android — and register information about the AEDs such as manufacturer and condition of the device. In addition to the mobile apps, participants can enter data and check their status in the contest at the MyHeartMap website: http://philly.myheartmap.org/.

MyHeartMap Challenge participants can register as individuals or as teams. The individual or team that will find the most AEDs will win $ 10,000. Other participants will win $ 50 if they are the first to identify one of the designated golden AEDs. The MyHeartMap team is being coy about the precise number of golden AEDs, but has announced that there will be 20 to 200 of them. The data collected will be used to create an updated database of locations of all public AEDs in the Philadelphia region with a person’s GPS coordinates to help them locate the nearest AED during an emergency. The project is part of a larger ongoing collaboration between faculty of the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Washington and is modeled after the DARPA Network Challenge, a crowd-sourcing experiment in which social media users raced to be the first to submit the locations of 10 moored, 8-foot, red, weather balloons at 10 fixed locations throughout the United States. It is the teams hope that this challenge will lead to a nation-wide contest.

The MyHeartMap Challenge project is funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation; Physio Control; the Medtronic Foundation; the HeartRescue Project; Zoll; Cardiac Science; Philips and the University of Pennsylvania.

For more information about the MyHeartMap Challenge, visit: http://www.myheartmap.org. Participants can use a web application available at: http://philly.myheartmap.org/ The smart phone apps can also be downloaded for free for the iPhone at http://itunes.apple.com/app/id492442372?mt=8 and from the Android Marketplace at https://market.android.com/details?id=edu.upenn.medicine.myheartmap.

Waze Launches First Hands-Free Traffic Reporting for iPhone; Sets New Standard for Mobile Commuting

Palo Alto, CA (PRWEB) February 09, 2012

Waze, the now 12 million-strong community of traffic resisters, is announcing today the next breakthrough in the global fight against traffic: hands-free operation of its popular iPhone app. With the simple wave of a hand, drivers can now speak to navigate, report traffic, and alert others to potentially hazardous incidents on the road. With the launch, Waze hopes to set a hands-free standard for the future of the traffic-reporting industry, as well as any driver-focused products to come.

How it Works

Unlike other touch-activated speech recognition systems, the latest version of Waze uses the iPhones native proximity sensor to initiate voice control. When activated with a wave past the screen, Waze prompts the driver to speak the intended commands, without ever having to touch the phone or its screen. For example a spoken command of report traffic will prompt the driver to specify heavy, moderate, or standstill. Waze will then place that alert on the map, offering a drivers the ability to share details normally reserved for users in passenger mode. The new feature also understands destination-related commands such as drive home or drive to work, so drivers can continue to focus on the road rather than the screen.

A Completely Hands-Free Experience

In addition to Wazes new hands-free traffic reporting, Waze enhances the experience by allowing the use of Apples native Siri speech recognition for specific addresses as well as local search queries. To further ensure minimum driver distraction, Waze also disables text input into the app while the car is in motion. The result is a completely hands-free navigation experience for Waze drivers from start to finish.

Waze has found a touch-free means for drivers to safely interact with their traffic information while driving, said Roger C. Lanctot, Associate Director of Strategy Analytics Global Automotive Practice. With a swipe of the hand drivers will now be able to access the information they need and report on incidents they see. The implications for crowd sourced traffic information are significant.

Bristol, UK (PRWEB) September 08, 2011

Hargreaves Lansdown has launched its unique mobile app to meet the increasing demand for mobile access to websites and online services. The HL Live mobile app is the only app which allows investors to view their ISA, SIPP and other investments, and trade funds and shares, on both iPhone and Android systems. Danny Cox, Head of Advice, Hargreaves Lansdown

Tom McPhail, Head of Pensions Research: The app will support our private clients, employees of our corporate wrap clients and encourage a new generation of investors who will consider mobile access a necessity. The solution to the pensions crisis lies in investor engagement; Hargreaves Lansdown is making it easier for investors to engage with and manage their long term savings.

The app has already been downloaded over 12,000 times since its launch in August.

Over a quarter of adults (27%) and almost half of teenagers (47%) now own a smartphone, according to Ofcoms latest Communications Market Report. There has also been a forty-fold increase in the volume of mobile data transferred over the UKs mobile networks between 2007 and 2010 and a 67% increase in 2010 alone.

2010 saw a large migration of customers from pre-pay to contract mobile phone services. At the end of 2010, 49% of mobile subscriptions were contract, compared to 41% a year previously. This is attributed in a large part to the popularity of smartphones.
