Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 24, 2014

On February 21, 2014, host Michelle Matthews of Growth Matters on Business RadioX® welcomed to the studio David Lilenfeld with SterlingFunder and Mark Shekerow with CareGiver Communications for a tutorial on crowdfunding.

David Lilenfeld is Co-Founder and CEO of SterlingFunder, an Atlanta-based equity and debt crowdfunding portal with an innovative approach to connecting startup companies seeking capital with qualified investors. According to Lilenfeld, “Our mission is to be the catalyst for business growth, economic development and job creation through the power of the crowd. We provide the platform, education and tools to shift the power from Wall Street to Main Street.”

As a lawyer, investor and entrepreneur, Lilenfeld recognizes the enormous effect crowdfunding will have on businesses and individual investors across the country and eventually the world. Explained Lilenfeld, “When The JOBS Act – which makes equity-based crowdfunding legal in the United States – became law, I began planning a way to help match passionate, smart entrepreneurs with intelligent, growth-minded investors in a union that has been unduly burdensome to make before crowdfunding.”

Also in the studio was Mark Shekerow, CEO at CareGiver Communications, Inc., an organization that provides information that helps improve the lives of caregivers and those that they care for. They provide a low cost way for local and national companies that provide goods and services for the 60 million caregivers nationwide to reach this $ 300 billion market. According to Shekerow, “We have evolved from a regional magazine based business to a multi-media company with emphasis on the internet, internet radio, TV and a national publication.”

As part of that growth, Shakerow explained, “We’ve been working on the business for a number of years, and we’re to a point where we need additional funding to grow, and that’s why we’re pursuing crowdfunding.”

Chimani Celebrates National Park Week with the Release of Five New National Park Mobile Apps and New Innovative Features

Yarmouth, ME (PRWEB) April 16, 2013

Chimani announced today a range of products and new features to enhance national park visitors experiences while in the parks. The announcement coincides with the celebration of this year’s National Park Week, which runs from April 22-26.

In honor of each of the five days of National Park Week – a new park app will be released for each day. The new Chimani mobile apps include Grand Teton National Park, Glacier National Park, Olympic National Park, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks, and Bryce Canyon National Park. These, as well as all other Chimani apps, will be available for free on Apple iTunes, Google Play, and Amazon AppStore starting Monday, April 22 – the first day of National Park Week.

Each new national park app includes all the core technologies which has made Chimani the #1 mobile app platform for visiting national parks. The new park apps continue Chimani’s goal for helping visitors get the most out of their national park experience.

Each app delivers constantly updated content, detailed maps, ranger-led event schedules, auto touring points of interest, hiking details, restroom locations, free shuttle bus schedules, and breaking news alerts. Users can also view sunset and sunrise times for the most memorable scenic overlooks, access tide schedules along the coast, review lodging options, and much, much more. And as always, each Chimani app is designed to work without a cell phone signal.

Chimani’s Viewport Augmented Reality Tool

Chimani’s new Viewport tool – an augmented reality viewer available as a $ 1.99 in-app purchase – allows users to access an entirely new layer of information as part of their park experience. “Whether it’s the South Rim of the Grand Canyon or Glacier Point in Yosemite, visitors often overlook the richness that surrounds these dramatic viewpoints,” says Kerry Gallivan, CEO/co-founder of Chimani. “Using Chimani’s Viewport tool, visitors can pan around the scenic outlook and identify points of interest which are often left undiscovered. It is yet another Chimani tool that allows visitors to get the most of their park experience,” says Kerry.

Cell phone signals are poor and non-existent in most national parks, therefore Chimani apps are designed to function without any type of data connection. This ability also applies to the new Chimani augmented reality viewer – visitors can be in the most remote corners of a park and still discover new points of interest.

Crowd-sourced topographic maps

Chimani continues its innovation in mobile mapping technology for the outdoors by introducing topographic maps based on data from Openstreetmaps.org – the largest online mapping project in the world. Chimani is now able to produce rich topographic maps which are updated monthly with the most recent data available for park visitors.

“Chimani users are now able to actively contribute to the national park community and help build better geo-spatial data for each of the parks,” says Kerry Gallivan. “A great example of this is Openstreetmaps.org’s user Tomthepom who spent the winter meticulously editing the park data within Grand Canyon. Thanks to Tom, the data found within the Chimani maps is the most detailed and up-to-date available anywhere – digital or print,” says Kerry.

Many visitors don’t realize how often trail data changes so having access to the latest details helps enhance the park experience.

Social-sharing using Near Field Communication (NFC) technology

For the Android versions of the apps, Chimani has introduced a beta feature of a social-sharing tool that uses Near Field Communication (NFC) technology to connect with other Chimani users and share contact information. “We modeled this feature after the tradition on the Appalachian Trail of exchanging something with people that you meet on the trail,” says, Kerry Gallivan. By touching two Android phones together, the users profile is exchanged using NFC. No cell phone signal is required and when the exchange occurs within a particular park, a unique badge is unlocked between users as a bonus.

Chimani’s suite of National Park Apps

The Chimani suite of national park apps include 14 of the most visited national parks in the United States. These include Acadia National Park, Bryce Canyon National Park, Cape Cod National Seashore, Cuyahoga Valley National Park, Glacier National Park, Grand Canyon National Park, Grand Teton National Park, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Olympic National Park, Rocky Mountain National Park, Yellowstone National Park, Yosemite National Park, Zion National Park and the National Parks app – which is a virtual passport tool for all the National Park Service units.

Each of the national park apps are an indispensable resource for anyone visiting our most treasured national parks. Each delivers constantly updated content, ranger-led event schedules, auto touring points of interest, hiking details, restroom locations, free shuttle bus schedules, and breaking news alerts. Users can also view sunset and sunrise times for the most memorable scenic overlooks, access tide schedules along the coast, review lodging options, and much, much more.

The Chimani apps are available for the iPhone, iPad, Amazon Kindle and Android devices. They can be downloaded directly from Apple’s iTunes App Store, Google Play and Amazon AppStore (keyword: “chimani”).

About Chimani

Located along the rocky coast of Maine, Chimani has become a leading developer of mobile apps for iPhone, iPad, and Android. Chimani is comprised of a small group of developers who are passionate about helping people get the most out their outdoor adventures. Founded in 2010, Chimani apps have totaled over 450,000 downloads and rank #1 in each of the major app marketplaces for individual parks. Maryland Association of CPAs Features Innovative Technologies and Social Media to Increase Engagement and Collaboration at Innovation Summit

Towson, MD (PRWEB) May 15, 2013

The Summit theme of Innovation, Connection, and Collaboration is designed to showcase innovation in the CPA Profession and features almost 20 of the top thought leaders in the Profession, top technology vendors and leading innovations in Accounting Standards, XBRL, Healthcare and more. All in an event designed to spark serendipity and innovation.

A recent IBM Global CEO study identified collaboration as the number-one trait CEOs are seeking in their employees, with 75 percent of CEOs calling it critical. The CPA Horizons 2025 Report by the American Institute of CPAs also identified collaboration in the top five skills needed by CPAs in the future. MACPA Chair Anoop Mehta said, “We are very excited to be able to use these technologies to enhance and accelerate collaboration among summit attendees, sponsors and speakers. These relationships will be instrumental in keeping our members ahead of the rapid pace of change we find ourselves in.”

Here is how these exciting technologies will be used at the Innovation Summit.

ThinkTank by Group Systems (http://www.groupsystems.com) is a powerful crowdsourcing, crowd-computing, and group decision support platform that wows participants, significantly accelerating and enhancing outcomes, creating a profound collective experience for participants. It will be used in a special session (on May 16th) with Learning Leaders across the CPA Profession titled, “Turning Training and Learning into Business Results” by the Business Learning Institute’s Richard Flanagan, author of The Six Disciplines of Breakthrough Learning and Bob Dean, CPA, CLO, Founder of Dean Learning & Talent Advisors

Flybits (http://flybits.com) is an exciting location-aware technology that connects people to places called “zones”. It is the way we are distributing conference materials to participants at the Innovation Summit. It’s an incredible technology that delivers specialized content to your mobile device based on where you are at any moment. Want some fun? See what pops up when you visit a vendor’s booth (aka “Flybits zone”). Zone’s will be created for the MACPA and our Platinum Sponsors, CPA2Biz (http://www.cpa.com), Sage (http://na.sage.com), CCH (http://www.cch.com), Ziptr (http://www.ziptr.com), and Simplified Innovations (http://simplifiedinnovations.com).

Conferences.io (http://www.conferences.io) is an innovative web-based audience participation application used to increase engagement and make learning more collaborative. Special polling and social Q&A features allow for constant participation during and after events and will be used in several sessions at the Summit.

MACPA Groups (http://cpa.tc/roups) is our newest tool to help MACPA members connect and collaborate and share the “wisdom of the crowd”. The Federal Tax group was recently used to crowd-source MACPA’s testimony for the House Ways & Means Committee about the “tax season from hell.”

Social Media will be used extensively at the Summit as a connection and learning tool. Special pre-summit webcasts were held with our members (Social Media Quick Start) and with sponsors (How to Tip the Adoption Curve) to teach them specifics around ”how to crush a conference”. A special Social Media Guide has been created to connect people to our sponsors and speakers. Follow the conference at hashtag #MDSUMMIT13.

Jennifer Warawa, Sage’s vice president of partner programs and channel sales, said in a recent press release, “This event is different from any other in the profession, so our approach to how we engage with the show and its participants is different. Sage is getting social with the help of MACPA and there are several initiatives planned to get everyone online and talking in the social channels.

MACPA CEO, Tom Hood, CPA,CITP, CGMA said, “we are now at a point where the collaboration curve can help us jump the experience curve. We are excited to see how these innovative technologies can help our members amplify their connections at our Summit and increase their ability to collaborate for years to come.”

About the Maryland Association of CPAs: The MACPA exists to help CPAs connect with each other in strategic ways, to be the organization to protect our members’ interests, and to help them achieve greater success. We provide the resources and services that CPAs need to excel in their profession. Since 1901, the MACPA has been a national leader as a premier professional organization in the CPA Profession. Tom Hood, our CEO, was recently named as one of the Top 25 Thought Leaders in Public Accounting by CPA Practice Advisor and a one of the Top 100 Most Influential People in the CPA Profession by Accounting Today Magazine (eighth time in 2012). We’re honored that the Baltimore Business Journal and Washington Business Journal have named the MACPA as one of the top 5 largest networking organizations in Baltimore and D.C. for each of the past five years.
